“Deep Breath” is episode one of season eight of the new series of Doctor Who.
This is the first outing for Peter Capaldi‘s Doctor. I’m not totally sure what number Doctor he is after they altered the old order in “The Day of the Doctor” with the War Doctor and had David Tennant‘s Doctor be two different regenerations in “The Time of the Doctor”. I think he’s number 14. His start wasn’t brilliant; ‘New kidneys. Don’t like the colour’ was not the best opening line and too close to David Tennant’s one about new teeth.
The Doctor turns up in Victorian London with a Tyrannosaurus Rex (which the natives take surprisingly calmly). He is, as usual, not coping well with his regeneration (and is puzzled about his face), and nor is Clara, who is having problems accepting the change. Once again, the Doctor meets the Silurian Madam Vastra and her associates Jenny and the Sontaran Strax.
A dinosaur isn’t the only thing to worry about though. There have been cases of spontaneous combustion going around.
Too soon to tell what I think of this Doctor, seeing as he’s replaced one of my two favourites. There’s a brief reference to the Fourth Doctor. The villain is one seen by the Tenth Doctor.
