“Gateway” is episode ten of season one of Colony and the season finale.
In the previous episode, “Zero Day”, Bo left the colony but Will stayed behind because Katie didn’t want to leave, instead stay to help the Resistance. She and Broussard, with the assistance of the other cell, intercepted the subway train that was bringing the VIP into the colony. ‘Intercepted’ meaning ‘blew it up.’ Inside there were dead human guards, and something in some sort of all-enclosing suit.
This episode opens with a man with a backpack walking through a rundown area. He is asked by a boy if he has any food, which he denies. The boy keeps hassling the man, but he’s a distraction, as a girl blows something into his face. As the man lies on the ground, she, the first boy and another cut away his backpack. They flee as Redhats appear and manage to get away. As they are sorting through the pack, the girl calls the second boy ‘Charlie’. This is Will and Katie’s missing son, and it isn’t the LA colony.
Will is at home asleep in a chair when there is a knock on the door. Jennifer is outside with a bunch of Redhats, which looks ominous. Except she explains that the Resistance kidnapped the VIP they were after and it’s all hands on deck. She went to Bo’s house and he was gone. Jennifer complains to Will about being on the outside; if they screw up it will blow back on her. Will tells her she is on the outside so it won’t blowback.
Helena arrives at the DHS and announces she is the chief of staff for the governor general. A VIP was attacked and abducted. Will asks who and is told one of their hosts. A question about Snyder leads to Helena saying she will personally be running things. And that this isn’t a good situation; during the Arrival, two of their hosts were killed in Dallas. A city which is now a flat sheet of glass. They have a brief window of time to find whoever took the alien.
Katie and Broussard are diving on the tracks in a pickup with the other three. One is saying he thinks he made a mistake in the calculations for the dynamite. Really? They recovered the alien, which they think is dead but they aren’t sure. Broussard wants to dump it; they were after a live human who could be interrogated, not a dead alien. The other three, being of a more scientific and engineering bent, want to study it. And yes, they believe it is worthwhile risking their lives for. First, they have to get off the rails.
BB suddenly thinks, as they are carrying the boy into a subway station, that it could have a tracker. As to why they haven’t been found yet if it does, it’s because they are underground. It could be blocked with something metallic, and a space blanket is used. Are they sure it the signal is blocked? Sure enough.
Will heads home to find Maddie and the kids there. He tells her that Katie kidnapped a VIP and things are going to go to pieces. The kids need to be taken somewhere safe. Maddie thinks she can get them into the Green Zone; she’s been working for the number two in the political wing. Bram is outside, picking fruit and packing a bag. Will doesn’t notice quite what he’s doing and tells him that there is no school. And asks if he knows where Katie is. No, but on more pressure from Will, Bram hands over a phone number. The phone is in the Resistance’s loft but they aren’t back yet. They are still dodging Redhats, then curfew is announced in the middle of the day. At the Green Zone, a lot of people are trying to get in. Maddie’s name isn’t on the list, but the woman at the gate calls Nolan who gets them sent through. Only Bram has slipped away. Katie and the others hijack a Redhat vehicle to make travel easier and safer. As they are in the vehicle, they see drones congregate, then blow a building to pieces. This is the first of what will be many.
Nolan tells Maddie that Snyder is out and tomorrow there will, be a new proxy. She wants to know what it means. That depends on who it is. He needs to pick a side, but not the wrong one. Maddie suggests supporting everyone until he has to make a decision. Snyder is trying to get his daughter out of the colony, but she wants nothing to do with him. Jennifer has footage of Broussard and Katie in the subway. There’s a clear-enough shot of Katie to reveal who it is. Well, Jennifer wanted to be on the inside.; Now, she is, as she keeps this secret. Bram is heading to find his teacher. He has mentioned going to USC on Mount Wilson to get a better look at the construction on the Moon. He doesn’t know that the tunnel has been found and a trap set in it though.
No true cliff-hanger ending but a bunch of new threads.
