“A Brave New World” is episode two of season one of Colony.
The episode opens with some posters saying ‘I am Geronimo’ being torn down. Carlos is with his wife and son getting food. She asks what happened to Will; Carlos is sure that Will is on the other side of the wall, looking for his son, and not to worry about him. She isn’t; she’s worried about her husband. They are in an RV outside the garage and Carlos heads into work. Then a drone comes down, followed by Redhats who enter the garage as they hide inside the vehicle. There are shots inside the garage and Carlos is taken away.
Katie arrives home to see a new car in the drive. Inside, an ad is playing on the radio about how the men and women of Homeland Security – the Redhats – proudly serve the Transitional Authority. In the previous episode, “Pilot”, Will, under pressure, agreed to work for Proxy Snyder. It also turned out that, even though Will isn’t part of the resistance, Katie and Broussard are. In retrospect, not that big a surprise.
Proxy Snyder told Katie that she would be able to reopen her bar, The Yonk, and she tells her son that he will need to help. Will is in bed; he got in late last night. He was taken to security headquarters, where he had a physical, polygraph and much paperwork. Today he will meet his team. Regarding the car, tell the neighbours that the transport authority promoted him out of the garage.
Where Will is heading has the symbol of the transitional authority outside in big, long banners. A black bird inside a white circle on a red background. That’s probably deliberate; if you want to make an organisation appear to be evil, use the colours and design of one already known to be evil. In real life, it’s hardly likely that almost any organisation would be foolish enough to use that design.
Inside, Will is given a new ID by Jennifer McMahon, a data miner. She tells him it’s not like his previous badge; do not take it off. Jennifer also finds it funny that Will is under the impression that he’s the one in charge. He isn’t; he’s working for a woman called Phyllis. She isn’t surprised Snyder didn’t tell the truth; he’s like that. Phyllis also congratulates Will on his skill in hiding for the past few months. Given that everyone like him was being killed, it’s not like he had a choice. Snyder was telling the truth about Geronimo being the ultimate goal, but Will’s first target is Andrew Hynes, who placed the bomb in the truck that resulted in Will being caught. Not resistance; he was just paid. Phyllis also suggests Will take Beau with him. Beau first takes Will to the armoury, where he takes a gun, and some drinks.
Katie is at The Yonk when Broussard arrives. The resistance needs something specific. They think the Authority is looking for the cell that bombed the gateway. They need to know how close the Authority is, and there’s a time factor in this. So, no pressure.
Will and Beau arrive at the place belonging to Hynes’ girlfriend. Hynes, according to Will, isn’t a seasoned operative, just a yoyo paid to place something on a truck. Which means he will come back to what he knows, especially if what he knows is a smoking hot girlfriend that both agree is out of Hynes’ league. The girlfriend says she hasn’t seen Hynes, as they split up, but Will knows she’s lying. Around the back of the building, they spot him, and Will manages to catch him. After which a drone appears to just have a look.
Hynes is taken to the holding cells – it’s not their place to question him. Inside, Will spots Carlos, who explains what happened. All because of the fuel cells Carlos helped Will steal. Will wants to help Carlos get out of there and tells Phyllis he will make a good CI. Will also looks for Carlos’ family, who are no longer in the RV, but have turned up at Will’s house.
Will is attempting to help Carlos, and catch Hynes so that he can get his son, Charlie, back. He also suspects his boss is former CIA, which is odd as they were hunted down too. Katie is helping the resistance and this might make Will realise that she is doing. She also wants Charlie back, naturally enough. Maddie is waiting within the Green Zone when she runs into someone she knows from before the arrival. Whose motives are not exactly pure. There’s a brief glimpse as to some of this mysterious factory, but not much.
