“O, Mouse” is episode twenty of season one of Batwoman and the season finale.
A man carrying a couple of machetes who looks like he was one of those Alice released from Arkham in the previous episode, “A Secret Kept from All the Rest”, gets into a train carriage and uses the machetes to decapitate a man. Commander Kane gets on and points a shotgun at him, but the man doesn’t back down. He manages to disarm Kane, then Kate, as Kate, joins in, but she’s also unable to stop him. Neither know who it was. According to Vesper Fairchild, it was Tim ‘The Titan’ Teslow, former player for the Gotham Goliaths.
Alice is reading Lucius Fox’s journal in the sewer when Mouse approaches. The Crows have an app, available to everyone. With one click, they can notify the Crows that Alice and Mouse have been spotted. They need to get out of Gotham. Alice can’t start a new life whilst the old one still haunts her. They need patience; she just needs to find the rock – Kryptonite – that will penetrate the Batsuit. Only Lucius didn’t mention where it was kept.
Tommy arrives; he’s not happy with his face. He got the journal and helped them to decode it, so now Alice knows how to kill Batwoman. He wants a new face. Mouse laughs, but Alice says she owes Tommy a face and will go to the university morgue to get better materials.
Luke has what he thinks is the only sharp of Kryptonite. Bruce was keeping it in the Batcave for safekeeping for a friend. Kate asks if this friend had tights, a cape and a big ‘S’ on his chest. How did she know that? Lucky guess. With the coil accelerator defunct and Bruce’s railgun melted, this is the only thing that can penetrate the Batsuit. Luke just needs to figure out how to destroy it. Batwoman will be as good as invincible.
Mary arrives as Luke leaves, to talk about Teslow. She mentions lots of American football stuff, none of which means anything to Kate. He was brutal and the secret to his success was steroids. Then, in a playoff game, he killed and official. His brother, Apollo, now plays for the Goliaths. Kate needs to suit up and go and speak to Apollo. Maybe if she does this, Kane will change how he sees Batwoman.
Alice heads to the university, but not to the morgue. Instead she sees Professor Darby, the head of the geology department. She asks about Kryptonite. The professor suggests she means lots of other minerals. She saw Darby’s name written next to it in a journal. Turns out Darby didn’t know it by that name. No, he can’t hand it over, he sent it back to its owner, Lucius Fox, care of Wayne Enterprises. Alice will need to talk to them. Alice agrees, but can’t have anyone finding out about this conversation, and kills Darby.
Luke is working on the Kryptonite and Mary is worrying about Kate. Luke says Kate knows what she’s doing. Mary disagrees; Kate thinks she knows what she’s doing and that can be worse than most people not knowing what they’re doing. Luke is failing to destroy the Kryptonite. Mary suggests crushing it. With a hammer.
Apollo is training when Kate speaks to him. No, he isn’t helping his brother. He testified against him in court and sent him to Arkham. His brother wasn’t a psycho; he wanted to win. Too much. The game turned him into a monster. Kate says she will make sure he doesn’t die one. Then Teslow shows up and manages to go through Kate like she wasn’t there. He hurls a machete at Apollo, hitting him in the spine and crippling him.
On the news, Kane is blaming Batwoman for, well, everything. He won’t discriminate against her or those who help her. Kate is watching this whilst Mary fixes her dislocated shoulder. Julia thinks Kate should sit this one out. Mary thinks Kate might not have a choice; she’s guessing Kate has a couple of cracked ribs. Kate thinks she might have more. But they can’t wait a few weeks, and who knows where Teslow will strike next? Well, Luke thinks he does. Teslow’s first victim was connected to him. It looks like there are people Teslow has a grudge against.
Mouse wants to leave Gotham, without Alice if necessary. Alice doesn’t want to leave, but she doesn’t want to be separated from Mouse. She also asks how he will survive without her. The way he survived in Arkham for five years without seeing her once.
Kate is going to have to work together with her father to bring in Teslow, but Kane’s hatred for Batwoman seems almost totally unreasonable.
For a season finale, this lacks much in the way of being a finale, but it was cut short. There were supposed to be two more episodes.
