“Lost Planet of the Gods: Part 1” is episode four of season one of the classic series of Battlestar Galactica.
Apollo, Adama, Athena, Starbuck, Boxey and Serina are dining together. After some hinting, Apollo finally admits that he and Serina have decided to marry. Athena sits next to Starbuck and smiles at him. He panics and bolts.
Apollo and Starbuck are heading out on patrol; Starbuck says this is the last time they will do it as they are. He admits that yes, he is jealous. They launch in one patrol; Boomer and Jolly in another.
On a Cylon base star, Count Baltar is brought before the new Imperious Leader. The Imperious Leader finds Baltar’s reasoning about how he can find the humans logical. He’s being given a base star and Lucifer, not a Centurion, to command.
Apollo and Starbuck come across a strange area of space that’s completely black. Apollo wants to take a closer look and heads in despite Starbuck trying to talk him out of it. He starts losing contact with Starbuck, who can’t go much further without losing the way back.
On Galactica, the pilots are preparing for Apollo’s bachelor party send off. One has liberated some drinks from the officers’ mess, and security turns up looking for it and asking who is responsible for the party. Colonel Tigh shows up and says he is. Once security has left, Tigh tells them that the only thing worse than lifting rations from the officers’ mess is being caught doing so.
Starbuck still can’t contact Apollo. He’s planning to head in and explains to Apollo what he’s doing. As Apollo can’t hear him, he doesn’t countermand this. Starbuck heads in, finds Apollo and is able to lead him back out.
Boomer and Jolly are getting readings from an asteroid. They head in and find a Cylon base with Raiders leaving it, heading away from the fleet.
Lucifer tells Baltar on the latter’s new base ship that they believe they have located the Galactica. A scouting expedition of Vipers landed at a listening post and were permitted to escape as Baltar instructed. They can take the Galactica by surprise. Baltar says that one base ship isn’t enough to ensure victory and they need to follow beyond scanner range. They can’t call for reinforcements, because the Galactica would pick it up.
Tigh tells Adama that the patrols are returning. Jolly has problems coming in to land, as he’s woozy. Boomer tells Adama about the Cylon outpost. Adama orders course changed without waiting for Apollo’s report.
Jolly is only the first to feel ill; Boomer ends up collapsing. Then all the Viper pilots except Starbuck and Apollo are struck down, meaning they have to train the shuttle pilots to fly the Vipers. With no other direction to go, Adama orders the fleet head towards the void Apollo and Starbuck encountered.
The story continues in the next episode, “Lost Planet of the Gods: Part 2”.
