“Blind Spot” is episode eleven of season two of Arrow.
The episode opens with it raining and a man enters a building. Inside, he is welcomed – it’s Sebastian Blood and he’s at the hospital where Maya Resik is being kept. He’s told that Maya – his aunt – has taken a turn for the worse. Maya, when Sebastian arrives, asks for the nurse not to leave, but she does anyway. Sebastian asks Maya about Laurel. In the previous episode, “Blast Radius”, Laurel had visited Maya, who told her she was Sebastian’s mother, not his aunt, and Sebastian was the one who killed his father. Maya claims they talk about nothing and apologises for Sebastian’s father hurting him. Sebastian forgives his mother and leaves. She is praying in her bed when Sebastian returns, wearing the skull mask.
Oliver is asking questions of another person about the man in the skull mask. The person he is shooting arrows at says he simply deals with stolen merchandise. Felicity then tells Oliver to ask the man what colour his shoes are. She is measuring the man’s stress levels and needs a definitely honest answer for a baseline. It turns out that the man wasn’t lying about anything.
Laurel is at work taking some more of her father’s pills when she’s told there’s a call for her. It’s a nurse from the hospital; Maya Resik has passed away from a heart attack. Laurel tells Donner that Sebastian was the last person to see Maya alive, which she doesn’t believe is a coincidence. Nor that Maya told her the truth two days before her heart attack. She wants a search warrant for Sebastian. Donner tells her he’s the ADA who took Vertigo on live television, in “State v. Queen”, and can’t afford to go after Blood and miss. In other words, no, he won’t get a search warrant.
Roy is throwing rubbish away behind Verdant when Oliver greets him. He wants to thank Roy for saving his mother’s life. Also, Thea said he was hit by falling debris. Roy replies that it mostly missed. Inside, Felicity wants to know if Roy mentioned being injected by the man in the skull mask in “Three Ghosts”. Oliver says that Roy isn’t the sort of guy to discuss his feelings. Unlike Diggle and Oliver, according to Dig. Felicity thinks they need a new plan for finding the man in the skull mask, because scaring lowlifes isn’t working. Then the phone rings; it’s Lance and there’s someone who wants to speak to the Arrow.
The someone is Laurel. Oliver turns up late for the meeting; he wanted to ensure there wasn’t another SWAT team waiting for him like there was in “Identity”. Laurel admits that’s fair. She wants to talk about Sebastian Blood. No-one knows what he’s like. Roy and his girlfriend asked Laurel to investigate the death of Sin’s friend Max. Laurel believes that Sebastian or Cyrus Gold was involved, and Sebastian knew Gold. Sebastian will do anything to stop his past coming out. Laurel thinks Sebastian is dangerous and the Arrow is the only person who can stop him.
Felicity has hacked Sebastian’s cell phone. She doesn’t believe that the last name of Blood can be a good sign. Dig asks if she really thinks a man who has risked his live to help people in the Glades is a murderer in his spare time seeking to build an army of human weapons. Felicity points out that Dig is a bodyguard who helps his billionaire boss fight crime at night. Laurel gave Oliver the case number of the death of Sebastian’s father. He wants to check it out.
Roy seeks out Sin and shows her his new abilities, breaking a wall with his fist. He doesn’t want Thea to find out. He explains he never told them what happened the night he went missing. He was injected, but the stuff he was injected with didn’t kill him, it made him stronger. Finally, Roy doesn’t think he needs the Arrow’s help to stop people. They do decide to go after a criminal. This does not go to plan.
Felicity has found the case file related to the death of Sebastian’s father. Unfortunately, it’s sealed and in hard copy. Hard copy cannot be hacked. The file is at the city archive, so it will need stealing. Felicity tells Oliver that he will need a key card and won’t even know where to start looking. So, the Arrow heads to see Laurel to ask for her help. Felicity disables the CCTV cameras, which will give Oliver and Laurel six minutes. Unfortunately, one of the guards is, Felicity describes him as, the one rentacop with a brain and gets the cameras up and running, spotting Oliver and calling the police. The remaining files are going to be in poor condition after all the bullets fired. The file they stole is empty, and the CCTV footage from the past few weeks has been erased. Not hacked either; it was an inside job.
Dig through that Sebastian was Oliver’s friend and asks if friends aren’t given the benefit of the doubt. So, Oliver heads to see Sebastian to do just that, asking if Sebastian has had a fight with Laurel. This turns out to be a bad move, although that’s not obvious to Oliver. Sebastian says he will take care of Laurel and Slade insists that he does. It sounds as if Sebastian is going to kill Laurel, but his plan it’s more complex, and actually more effective. So, you have Sebastian and Oliver going after each other when masked, but friends when not. Neither knows who the other is. Roy is being affected by the Mirakuru. Yes, he’s stronger and heals faster, but he is also struggling to control himself. Struggling and failing.
On the island, Slade left Sara and Oliver – after nearly throttling Oliver – taking the Mirakuru with him. Ivo contacted Oliver, asking for the serum in exchange for a way off the island. Slade isn’t at the crashed plane, but the sensor grid is still active, so they will know if Ivo returns. Sara thinks they will never get off the island, and it seems as if she is thinking of taking Ivo up on his offer. Not that they have the serum to exchange. She insists that Ivo isn’t evil; he kept her safe on the ship for a year and taught her things. She learned a lot.
