“The Dark Backward” is episode twelve of season three of Andromeda.
This episode opens with the Andromeda Ascendant tumbling in space. Inside, Beka, Tyr, Harper and Dylan are all dead, and Rommie is being thrown into the slipstream core by an armoured intruder (this is not survivable, even for her). Then, the entire ship explodes (also not survivable).
Then it goes back to Trance, who is looking through possible futures to try and find one where they all survive. This hasn’t happened yet; Trance is using her ability to predict the future. Unfortunately, the intruder is from the future, and therefore knows what they are going to do before they do it.
Trance is struggling to find a future where the Andromeda, and all her friends, survive.
Some of the new crew are seen again, but there are nowhere near as many as the Andromeda had back in the old Commonwealth. The new crewmembers seem to be mostly fulfilling the role of redshirts so far.
