“Home Fires” is episode eight of season two of Andromeda.
The Andromeda Ascendant is training with some allies – who are performing less than well (a polite interpretation) – when they are approached by an unknown craft. The craft’s pilot says that he is from the Systems Commonwealth or, rather, one world that has managed to survive.
The world is inhabited by the descendants of the Andromeda‘s crew who were forced to abandon her in “Under the Night” and those of the Starry Wisdom, which was encountered in “The Banks of the Lethe”. One of those from the Starry Wisdom was Dylan’s fiancée, Sara, and she has left him a message.
The Andromeda travels to the world, but before they join the new Systems Commonwealth, they have to have a vote. Plus, the admiral of their navy is Dylan’s old first officer who betrayed him in the first episode, only reborn. Tyr says that, even though the chances of someone having the same DNA as a former person are low, they are higher for the Nietzscheans (due to a fair degree of interbreeding). Oddly, that was something that happened in the film Jupiter Ascending.
Although said first officer was Dylan’s friend, the betrayal has left him with somewhat mixed feelings.
