“Tailfin” is episode one of season three of Manifest.
At the end of the season two finale, “Icing Conditions”, a fishing boat retrieved the tailfin from Flight 828. Ben is now in Havana, Cuba, and finally finds the boat; Cal had drawn it. Ben gets onboard then suffers a strange calling.
Cal rings him, as he was in the calling as well, then Michaela joins them. There was another woman in the vision, though they don’t know who it is. Bern tells them he hasn’t found anything on the boat. Michaela hasn’t had a calling that intense in months. ben thinks the boat’s owners are around somewhere.
Michaela is on her honeymoon with Zeke; he hasn’t had a calling since he came back from the dead. Michaela would lose the callings forever if it means outliving the death date. But she thinks they have to help the woman in the calling.
A woman is being held in a room somewhere.
Cal joins Grace and Olive at home. He says he had a calling and so did Ben and Michaela. When asked what happened in it, he says they were about to die.
Saanvi is working at a medical centre. A medical centre with a command centre for something else. She asks the man in it if he’s heard anything from Cuba. Not yet.
The two fishermen return to the boat and Ben asks them if they found something. He says he doesn’t work for Montego Airlines and they admit they haven’t told anyone else. They were going to use it to get out of there. Ben offers them a roll of cash, saying it should get them anywhere they want.
They head to a building and a kid watches them enter. Inside is the tailfin and the kid is recording as Ben touches it and is knocked backwards and unconscious.
Jared, now a lieutenant, enters the precinct and sees a woman asking Drea about Michaela. Afterwards, Jared speaks to Drea. The woman’s mother is missing and she thinks an 828 cop can help.
Olivia and Cal are in the garage trying to work out who the woman is. Cal’s description is not helpful. Michaela calls and gives a better one. None can reach Ben. The woman is Angela Meyer. She’s dropped off the grid. And her parents own a house. In Costa Rica. Two hours’ drive from Zeke and Michaela.
Ben comes around. Vance is on an earwig and Ben tells him he’s okay, filling him in. Outside, the kid is showing his friends the recording when a cop comes over and takes a look.
Angela’s parents tell Zeke and Michaela that their daughter no longer carried the light of God when she came back and they couldn’t connect with her. She packed up her passport and left, possibly for New York.
Ben is talking to the boat’s owners about the tailfin when Vance warns him the police are coming in. Ben’s hand where he touched the tailfin is marked and the cop wants him to do it again.
As well as helping Angela, there’s also the tailfin. How did the tailfin from a plane that exploded in New York in “Pilot” end up at the bottom of the Caribbean near Cuba?
