“The Lion’s Den” is episode five of season one of Heroes Reborn.
In the previous episode, “The Needs of the Many”, Molly Walker had been found by Noah, Quentin and Erica’s daughter, Taylor, who is losing faith in her mother. Molly had killed herself rather than helping Erika kill 7 billion people. Now, Erika is rather against Evos – even though Renautus is built around profiting from their abilities – but there certainly aren’t 7 billion of them. Noah and the others come across a seed bank as they are leaving; one which Noah says is the sort of size necessary to rebuild after an extinction event. This suggests that Erica is going to be directly responsible for the death of everyone, not just Evos. Erica has justifications, of course – don’t they all?
Tommy’s blood wasn’t suitable to help his mother, so he picked some up and brought it back. Which has resulted in him being tracked down. Now, he’s being registered and implanted with a tracking chip – all these laws against the Evos and their tracking and registration brings up, probably deliberate, similarities with certain unpleasant events in the last century. Tommy’s blood was so unsuitable, in fact, that his mother couldn’t be his natural mother. So he’s adopted, but who are his original parents? The man with the U.S. pennies is helping Tommy in some way, and for some unknown reason.
Farah and Malina – the two Evos from the Arctic circle – are in Quebec, but their contact hasn’t appeared and one of the Harris clones is hunting them.
Carlos goes to confront Captain Dearing about what he presumes (he’s right) involvement in the disappearance of Father Mauricio and Jose. With the death of Molly, the EPIC programme is not functioning at full power, but the visors still work, and are being despatched to law enforcement. As Carlos arrives to confront Dearing, the precinct receives their own visors – and Dearing is revealed to be an unregistered Evo.
Luke Collins has gone back to his and Joanne’s house in Rochester, New York, which doesn’t appear to have changed since the loss of their son in Odessa.
In California, Miko and Ren are planning to recover the former’s sword. Ren has managed to get a lot of people to turn up at Renautus, thanks to his internet fame, and all the women are dressed like Katana Girl. However, the EPIC visors will show which one is actually Miko.
At the very end of the episode, the oncoming problem is finally revealed – and it’s connected to the aurora seen at the end of “Brave New World”.
